Brief History of HICA

Specialized Education Programs in Aeronautics and Arts at a Global University located in the west coast region. HanSeo University has established a global network partnering with 77 universities worldwide. Relatively new in the Korean academic family, HanSeo was founded in 1992 with the founding spirits of creativity, confidence, and contribution. Located on the hillside of the peaceful Mt. Gaya, and adjacent to Seosan City in Chungnam Province, HanSeo University is an academic community of 7,000 students and 250 full-time staff working together to enable the pursuit of academic goals across 36 departments.

From the outset, in tune with the growing importance of globalization, HanSeo has focused on offering specialized educational opportunities. Thanks to its superlative facilities and congenial academic environment, HanSeo University delivers the finest teaching and learning experience which has been acknowledged by the Korean Council for University Education.

The University is strategically located on the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, which is in the limelight because of its importance in the National Development Plan. The West Coast Expressway together with well-developed school and public bus transportation enables easy access for students from Seoul, Incheon and Honam areas.

What highlights HanSeo University’s uniqueness is its 2A program for aeronautics and the arts. The Taean Campus airfield and Flight Education Center are the first facilities of their kind in Korea, delivering world class, specialized training in aeronautics. In addition, the Product Surface Design Innovation Center gives Art students extraordinary opportunities to develop their skills in industrial and product design.

HanSeo International College of Aviation was established in March of 2017 to house and administer the aeronautical schools (School of Aeronautical Science, School of Transdisciplinary Aeronautical Studies, the entire suite of aeronautical programs (undergraduate and graduate), and the aeronautical educational centers (Flight Education, Air Traffic Control, Aero Technical). By bringing all aeronautical responsibilities into the one college, HanSeo is able to focus its energies and talents in working toward the goal of becoming the world’s best aviation University.

    • 2005. 04 The construction of the Aviation Campus (Taean Airfield) completed

    • 2010. 01 Signed a cooperative agreement with the Incheon International Airport - Signed an MOU with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to establish Uljin Flight Training Center

    • 2010. 07 Uljin Flight Training center opened

    • 2011. 03 Department of Unmanned Aircraft System established

    • 2012. 02 Designated as specialized education university for producing special industry human resources by the Korea Council for University Education

    • 2013. 03 The name of the Department of Computer Information changed to the Department of Aviation Software Engineering - The Flight Education Center designated as the Cessna Pilot Training Center (CPC) by Cessna - Flight Simulation Education Center for C172, B206, FLYIT, and B737 opened

    • 2013. 03 The maintenance part of Aviation Service Center certified by the Seoul Regional Office of Aviation (certification #2013-AMO S01)

    • 2013. 03 The name of the Department of Aviation & Marine Sports changed to the Department of Aviation Leisure Industry

    • 2013. 06 Signed a cooperative agreement with Korea Coast Guard to train pilots

    • 2013. 09 The aircraft operation of Aviation Service Center registered with Seoul Regional Office of Aviation

    • 2014. 01 University specialized education (aviation) project selected by the Ministry of Education (10.5 billion won for 5 years)

  • 2015~2020

    • 2015. 03 Signed an MOU with the Institute for Aviation Safety Technology - Signed a cooperative agreement with Jeju Air

    • 2015. 10 Signed cooperative agreements with most of the domestic airline companies including Asiana Airlines

    • 2015. 12 Designated as Cessna Citation Authorized Service Center, and Cessna Propeller Service Station

    • 2016. 06 Signed a cooperative agreement with the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI)

    • 2017. 04 Signed an MOU with Air Seoul - The project of the Leaders in Industry- university Cooperation (LINC+) selected by the Ministry of Education (16 billion won for five years)
