Introduction

The marine bio-industry is a generic term for industries that provide useful substances and services by identifying the systems, components, and functions of marine organisms. This is a department that trains marine bio experts with majors related to the overall industry that explores the conservation and use of living things and the regulation of marine life functions, as well as the acquisition of food and energy, and the production of useful substances. Globally, there is a growing focus on securing marine and developing marine resources, which is leading to an increase in demand for marine bio experts. The Department of Marine Biomedical Sciences, established in 2018, is the only department related to marine biology in Korea that is designed for the purpose of fostering marine bio professionals.

The Educational Goal

• To develop professionals with understanding and appreciation of marine resources through the acquisition of knowledge about the ecology and physiology of marine animals and plants.

• To develop professionals with understanding and appreciation of marine (fishery) related disease management, marine food resources, marine biology, and related industries.

• To develop professionals who can become fisheries disease management officers (fish doctors).

• To create global leaders in marine biotechnology.
